John Hankins of York County, Virginia obituary, 1848

The Daily Richmond Enquirer, March 24, 1848, p. 2, col. 7:

“Died, in this city, on Monday, March 20th, Mr. John Hankins, late of the county of York, in the 70th year of his age. Though Mr. Hankins’ health had been for months rather feeble, his death was sudden and unexpected. He made no profession of religion, though during his illness, he furnished his family with the hope that he had yielded his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ, in humble reliance upon his gracious merits. Mr. H. was connected with some of the oldest and most respectable families in Lower Virginia, and leaves a widow and six children, with an aged brother and sister, to lament his death.”

The Richmond Whig ran this obituary on April 18, 1848 and asked that it be republished in the Methodist Advocate.
