My free, genealogy lessons via email

I am starting something new today, a free set of emailed genealogy lessons that anyone can sign up for and receive. My blog here focuses mainly on Virginia genealogy and tends to cater to those who already know the basics of genealogy. I am therefore starting these email lessons to help bring new people into the hobby and get them off to the right start, without the exclusive focus on Virginia.

Feel free to sign up, new or experienced in the hobby, as you might learn something. You can sign up at any time as the lessons are set to go out every-other-day for roughly a month. There is no time-frame to sign up, the lessons start anew with each subscriber. It is rolling system so you can start now or in a month from now and get the same set of lessons.

These lessons are a work in progress so you can give me feedback on things to change, remove or improve. As a matter of fact, I have not written most of them so the shape of the thirty-day program is still being determined. I just want to give people the confidence on how to proceed with genealogy, show them some of the pitfalls and nudge them in the right direction.

I am going to go over the different products and service offered in the industry, giving pros and cons of each. I am going to recommend certain books, products, etc. and advise that they might stay away from others. I want to encourage good record keeping and source citation through simple ways, keeping genealogy as fun yet documented as possible.

Anyway, feel free to sign up if you like. You can always unsubscribe at any time. For now I am only offering this to my blog readers but, once I get it refined, I am going to start spreading it around more. I would love for this to be a good starting point for new genealogists from all over the country. That is a little ambitious but a guy can dream.

You can sign up at the top, right corner of the blog by entering your name and email address in the box that currently says "Learn to trace your family tree with my free e-mail lessons."

I do not have a confirmation page right now, it just takes you back to the blog. It looks like it signed you up okay though.
